At the 3D Metrology Summit in Monogram Hall, a crowd of over 300 learned about how different 3D scanning technologies speed up production and create better products for our owners. Cynthia Fanning, VP of Dishwashers, said her products have benefitted from this technology.
“I am a huge believer in the power of the technology in this room,” says Cynthia. “If you’re not using 3D scanning now, as an example — you’ll want to.”
She is very excited and “geeked out” by the potential for the future of product development and quality systems.
After years of working with this technology, Kevin Mazzella, VP of Technology, said that product defects are now less common.
“3D technology has helped us design and produce our products better and more efficiently than ever before,” says Kevin. “I remember shuffling through stacks of paper, trying to analyze and fix faulty products, so it’s almost like we’re cheating now.”
Bill Moon, Executive Director of Supplier Quality, spoke about our future with 3D scanning technology. Bill said that with supplier support and continued attention toward improving our products, we can do better together.
“We currently we have five new NPIs using 3D scanning and appliance dimensioning systems, and we are collaborating with our supply base to be better,” says Bill. “The potential for this technology is unlimited.”
Highlights from the summit include:
15 partners showcased over $3.5 million in metrology hardware and software.
More than 50 supplier representatives attended.
Eight 45-minute breakout sessions took place, and several drew a crowd of more than 100.
Various vendors said attendees often engaged with their products.
Before attending the summit, many attendees said they didn’t realize these technologies exist and are being used on a daily basis.
